Devlog Week 79-80

I started actively applying to jobs this week and working more on my portfolio, so that’s where most of my time was spent. But I did work on the game here’s a recap.

3D Models

I had an idea of making a digital camera with a CRT screen for some reason. so I did. I desiged it all from scratch.

It was modeled entirely in Blender, textured im Substance Painter, and rendered in Marmoset 5 (because I got a license recently and wanted to learn how to use it for rendering).
The camera will be used in the game for photo mode, the model is shown briefly when it’s given to you by a certain NPC. I made a temporary joke interaction with it, showing you all the details you will never see otherwise (I only detailed it because I needed to add it to my portfolio)

LOOK AT IT!!!!

I also worked more on the rotary hammer, I am nearly done with the highpoly. I’m leaving bevels and seams and other smaller details in texturing. This could be a good benchmark for texturing with Marmoset, so I’ll do it that way.

Blender Asset Library

One thing I’ve been putting off for a while now was adding the models I finish to the asset library. I made a python script that gets the selected objects, mark them as assets, then copy and paste them into a specific .blend file in the asset library folder. This took about 30 minutes total, including coding. I also included a variant for materials. There are 290 models, many of which are variations and blockout/placeholders.

Blockouts

I made a few blockouts of main areas of the game, focusing a bit more on the interior.

I also spent some detailing the story and the first few days of interactions for 2 important characters.

I discovered that you can create animation assets in Unreal Engine, without exporting and rigging in Blender or anything else. In retrospect it wasn’t surprising that Unreal can do this, but I never thought to look for a way to do this before.

Idle sitting animation, created entirely in Unreal

Finally I played and Finished CyberPunk 2077, I only got the bad ending, but I think I’m done actually playing. I did take a ton of screenshots though, the CP2077 world can be beautiful in its own dystopian way.

That’s all for this week. I’ll keep working on my portfolio and applying for jobs and actual game progress will be slow, unless it’s something small or directly benefiting my portfolio. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you again soon!
