So I had a bit of a hiatus, for almost 2 months. I am back now to do game dev stuff and work on the project. It wasn’t a break however, it was just a change of projects, focusing on something else.
Here’s what I did since last time:
Beyond Extent Team Challenge
I decided to participate in Beyond Extent’s Team Challenge, to work with other passionate people and learn and try new things.
The challenge theme was “Witches Den”. There were initially 16 teams with 5 people each, and we all had 5 weeks to finish an environment artwork scene in Unreal Engine 5.5.

I took care of materials, lighting, VFX and tech art (shaders, tools…etc) and some assistance here and there

Aircraft Navigation Computer
After finishing the group project, I was in the mood for some bulky box with lots of knobs and buttons and switches. I looked up some aircraft equipment for reference on ebay, and I found some interesting ones, but then I discovered the ASN-7 and I knew that was the one. The only downside is : there is literally only ONE picture of it on the internet. I spent 2 hours looking, but there wasn’t much. I improvised a little bit in the back, and the front is not a 1:1 replica, but this isn’t about historical accuracy anyway so it’s not that big of a deal.

Conditional Questions
I added support for “conditional questions”. In a few words: certain conditions need to be met for certain dialog options to be visible. Eg. you will only be shown the option “Who is in this picture?” if you inspect the picture before talking to the NPC.
This is not limited to questions, it can also unlock multi-choice options (like “1-Deliver Mail 2-Ask for help. 3-Ask about picture.”) since they are internally just a question-type interaction with an empty question.
That’s all for this time. In the next weeks I’ll try working on the dog NPC, give it a basic AI and animation blueprints and sounds.
